Pre-operative Instructions

Instructions Prior to Surgery

 

Medications

DO NOT:   use apirin for 7 days prior to  procedure unless directed to do so by  your physician.        

Antibiotic:   If instructed to do so, please take the prescribed amount one hour before your appointment.

Analgesic :   If given before your surgery, please take as prescribed. (DO NOT take this medication  prior to your appointment unless instructed to do so.)

Mouth Rinse:    Use as prescribed twice a day starting 24 hours after the procedure    

   

Eating and Drinking

DO NOT:        Do Not drink alcoholic beverages for 3 days prior to the procedure
DO NOT: 
      Do Not drink caffeinated beverages, and limit liquid intake for 12 hours prior to the 
                      procedure

DO:                Do eat a light meal before your appointment

Transportation

Normally, patients are capable of driving themselves home after their procedures.  If your appointment is much longer than an hour in duration, or you have some doubt about how you might feel after your surgery, you may prefer to have someone escort you home. Patients should not drive when using pain medications containing narcotics.

 

Clothing and Makeup

Please wear loose and comfortable clothing
DO NOT
wear makeup

Additional comments

Please bring all medications to the office on the day of your surgery so their instructions can be reviewed.

In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you for a post-operative check one week after your procedure and, if necessary, two weeks later.   

When preparing a post-op menu, please consider some of the following choices:

  • Ensure/Slim Fast
  • Soups
  • Pudding
  • Rice
  • Apple Sauce
  • Oatmeal
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Jell-O
  • Bananas
  • Yogurt
  • Pasta
  • Milk Shakes
  • Casseroles
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Cottage Cheese
