Suburban Periodontics and Implants is proud to be at the forefront of dental technology. The high-tech digital imaging system we employ not only allows for instant imaging for immediate diagnosis, but also exposes our patients to 75%-90% less radiation than traditional x-rays. While a full mouth series of radiographs (FMX) is used as our standard for routine follow-up, we recommend that a panoramic x-ray be taken at least every six years.
The panorex allows us to see areas that are missed on a traditional FMX such as the maxillary and nasal sinuses, the TMJ (temporomandibular joint), mandibular condyles and articular eminence, the entire mandibular nerve, as well as areas distal to the existing teeth such as the wisdom teeth. As we do more implant surgeries and more bone regeneration surgeries, it becomes ever more important to diagnose the entire patient. To date, our office has sent patients to ENT physicians and cardiologists for screenings for nasal polyps, cysts around impacted wisdom teeth, carotid artery radiopacities, and altered TMJ anatomy. Combining the FMX with the panorex allows us to remain on the cutting edge of service to our patients in a way that is diagnostic and meaningful for their entire oral , head and neck area.
